This Watch

We have here a stunning example of a 1954 Oversized Zenith Chronograph 156D 18ct Pink Gold. Its slim profile 37mm round case has finely tapered lugs. At 44.5mm lug to lug length and a thickness of 11.5mm, you can be sure of a comfortable fit on the wrist. Square pushers and a large crown sit on the right side. Polished to a perfect shine the case has a refinement that shouts out quality. The domed crystal sits proudly above the white dial. An outer Tachymetre is clearly printed in blue, the inner ring measures 60 seconds in black. Stretched 12 and 6 numerals with elegant applied chamfered edged pink gold baton indexes mark the hours, at 3 o’clock a 45-minute register and at 9 o’clock the continuous second's register. This combination provides great symmetry to the watch. Fine pink gold dauphine hands and a thermally blued chronograph seconds hand finish the dial with an understated sophistication that Zenith is famous for. On the reverse a plain snap-on case back. Inside a Manually Wound Zenith Cal. 156D, 17 jewels, 18,000 beats per hour quality movement. Fitted on an 18mm leather strap.

Extra Points

Founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot at 22 in Le Locle Switzerland. In November 1999 they were purchased by LVMH Group joining brands like TAG Heuer and Hublot. They are one of the few brands that continue to manufacture their own in-house movements. Over the years Zenith has won over 2300 awards for precision.

What we think

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no Zenith box or paperwork. The watch comes paired on a well-suited brown suede strap. The watch is from Circa. 1954 and is sold in worn, vintage condition, but overall very fair condition for its age. The watch comes with our 12-Months Non-Waterproof Warranty. We love Zenith, with vintage and modern both coming into our collection and to the website for sale! I believe they are still one of the last remaining "gems" in the vintage world that people are still yet to wake up to, does that mean prices will skyrocket in a few years? Who knows... But I do believe there is still plenty of room for growth when people realise Zenith were one of the top Swiss brands of this period, no question about it!
