This Watch

We have here a spectacular Tissot Seastar Navigator Chronograph, model 40522 from circa 1974. The condition of this watch is stunning an 8.5/10 for sure.

The stunning blue dial really sets this watch apart from other chronographs of the 1970s.  The aged, lumed, baton markers give no doubt to the originality of this timepiece.  At 12 o’clock, the dial is signed, “Tissot, Swiss,’ which sits underneath Tissot’s logo.  At 3 o’clock is the 30-minute subsidiary dial with a red hand.  At 6 o’clock, the dial is signed ‘Seastar, Navigator,’ giving no doubt to the functionality of the watch.  At 9 o’clock sits the subsidiary seconds dial with a black hand.  The chrome, stick hour and mixture hands are lumed.  The outer minute track/chronograph seconds is recorded with a bold red hand.  All of this sits under plexiglass.  The aluminum tachymetre scale is on the black bezel.

The substantial, cushion-shaped, 40mm, brushed stainless steel, screw-back case wears well on the wrist, but what we particularly love is the polished sides.  Two chronograph pushers sit either side of the signed, Tissot crown.  Inside is the Tissot caliber 2060 (Valjoux 7733) with 17 jewels, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We’ve paired this watch on a blue/green leather strap but it looks good on anything.

Extra Points

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile.  Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States.  In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches.  Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements.  In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.

The watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with our 12 months, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

We can’t get enough of this sporty, chronograph watch - the dial colour alone is next level!   It's the perfect piece for a first-time vintage watch buyer or a seasoned collector of Chronograph pieces . Has the look of a £5k Heuer or Breitling at a fraction of the cost.
