This Watch

We have here a super stylish Oris Big Crown with a crisp black dial.  The stand-out, white, luminous, Arabic numerals have an Art Deco styling that we absolutely adore.  Railway-style tracking sits on the outer rim of the dial for the minutes.  The inner ring of the dial has the day function at 12 o'clock and the date function at 6, where the dial is signed 'Oris, Swiss Made.'  The dial is also signed 'Automatic' and '25 Jewels' at 10 and 2 o'clock, respectively. 

The 40mm, polished stainless steel case has a gentle curve to the tapered lugs, and a lug to lug length of 44mm.  On the right hand side of this case is the distinctive big crown.  Inside is the automatic Oris caliber 635, which is visible through the exhibition case back, and has been fully serviced by us and is running strongly.  We've kept the watch on its original 20mm, stainless steel bracelet with an Oris-signed deployment clasp, but it looks great on leather too.

Extra Points 

Oris was founded in 1904 by two men, Paul Cattin and Georges Christian. The name comes from a brook in the Swiss town of Hölstein. In a short span of time they became the largest employer in Hölstein. By 1929, they had a total of six factories and at the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. The 'Big Crown' was introduced in 1938 to be used by pilots who wore thick leather gloves and needed a bigger crown for making adjustments.

What we think

The slight curve to the case makes this watch incredibly comfy to wear.  This is Oris design at its best, with hints to Art Deco alongside their famous, modern construction.  Perfect for the vintage watch newbie and can be switched from bracelet to strap at your leisure.
