This Watch

Omega Seamaster Large Cosmic model 166.128 produced in 1971 and sold 03/05/1975 so best oif both worlds for a 71 or 75 Birth Year option The stainless steel case has the unique 'Cosmic 2000' waterproof design, (not to be considered as waterproof now) where the outer bezel frame and movement are housed in an inner sealed tub.  The 38mm size forms a great presence on the wrist, which in part is due to the nicely rounded bezel, but also due to the generous size for a watch of this era.  Inside is the automatic caliber 1012, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We've paired the watch on a Genuine omega 20mm strap along with its original Omega buckle

The silvered/offwhite evenly aged dial has applied baton markers with lume pips and index, hour, minute and central seconds hands, which contrast nicely to the dial, making for an easy read.  At 3 o'clock is the date window and the dial is signed 'Omega, Automatic,' with the famous Omega logo at 12 and 'Seamaster, Cosmic, 2000' at 6.  This watch has such a contemporary feel to it, especially given it's larger size, that we absolutely adore! Keeping up with some of today's need for a bigger watch!  Making this watch stand out amongst others is the presence of its Original Box, outer,  Full paperwork and even the original sales receipt for £65.75. Also its original omega buckle.  This set really puts it in a different league from a watch only offering.

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space. It was only a few years before the Speedmaster became the official chronograph for the American space missions and was worn by Buzz Aldrin as well as the Apollo 13 crew. Omega are still involved with NASA and have been instrumental in creating vital pieces of equipment for space exploration.

What we think

Hailing from the 1970s, the Cosmic 2000 is now a much sought after watch and they represent everything we love about the  1960s/ 1970s watch design. Perfect for the first-time buyer but the Cosmic 2000 is definitely a watch worth having in every collection especially if you are looking for a plus size vintage piece. If you want vintage and large then look no further This watch stands tall next to any omega production today and a 3rd of the price.  The full box set completes the watch and as everyone knows it also adds a premium to the price and collectible value
