This Watch

We have here a futuristic Omega Seamaster Cosmic, reference 166.026, from 1969.  The sharp metallic satin blue original dial seems to change in different light. It is a classic design with straight chrome hands and batons with the original lume. Notice the usual "lume burn" around the dots at the markers , Not unusual with these electric satin blue dials for the applied luminous paint to react with this type of dial variation and even adds to the proof of originality. We are personally a big fan of any "original" blue dialed watches . with stubby rectangle markers with chamfered edges with black central strip and bold, sword hour, minute and sweeping central seconds hands.  The date window is a 3 o'clock along with the dial signed 'Omega, Automatic,' with the famous Omega logo at 12 and 'Seamaster, Cosmic' at 6 o'clock. 

The 34mm, monocoque/front-loading case is made from one solid piece of stainless steel.  The tonneau abstract curve to the case and irregular shape between the lugs is very unusual and only enhances the retro design of the watch.  Inside is the automatic Omega caliber 565, fully serviced by us and running strongly  We've opted for a simple 19mm black croco grain leather strap but other colours are available

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space.

This watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with a 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

First introduced in 1967 and produced for only a decade, the Seamaster Cosmic is now a much sought after watch.  These irregular-shaped, space-age beauties represent everything we love about the late 1960s/early 1970s watch design. Perfect for the first-time buyer but Cosmic is definitely a watch worth having in every collection.  Blue dials are a must in any watch collection and this one looks even better in the flesh.
