This Watch

We have here a beautiful and very rare Omega Geneve Variation. Model 166.041, from 1968. Another original stunning vintage omega new to stock . Lets talk about the dial and then this fabulous fixo-flex Omega Bracelet,

The watch's dial is simple, yet elegant, All original almost stormy grey in colour. A metallic finish which reflects light fabulously. At the very top, we find the iconic Omega logo, followed by the word "Automatic" in a clean, font.  Below this, the word "Genève" is displayed, indicating its Swiss origin and the Geneve Range . The hour markers are represented by bold, almost cats eye white batons, with black bar elongated rectangular indices. The date window is positioned at 3 o'clock, providing a clear and easily readable display of the day of the month. The hands are similarly styled to the hour markers, with Bold baton hour hand and a slightly longer, more pointed minute hand much like omega dynamic models. The second hand is sleek and picked out in Red/oranger adding a touch of contrast to the otherwise monochromatic dial. Overall, the dial presents a harmonious blend of classic design elements and modern readability and we love it!  Original colored dialed watches in this condition are very hard to find. Emphasis on the original!

The stainless steel, 34.5mm, screw-back case houses the automatic, workhorse Omega caliber 565 with pull / push quick date change ( one of omegas best movements in my opinion ) sits in the stainless steel, screw-back case, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  The watch comes on its original and quite Rare Ref 1122 /558 expandable steel bracelet , produced by the swiss bracelet makers 'Fixo Flex' for Omega and is also signed with omega.  a very comfortable wear and a good size.

Extra Points

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space. It was only a few years before the Speedmaster became the official chronograph for the American space missions and was worn by Buzz Aldrin as well as the Apollo 13 crew. Omega are still involved with NASA and have been instrumental in creating vital pieces of equipment for space exploration. Omega's reputation continued to soar in the 1990s with Omega Seamaster worn by Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. As well as post-1995 James Bonds, Omega has been worn by the likes of Elvis Presley, John F. Kennedy, Prince William, Rory McIlroy, Ringo Starr, Michael Phelps, Cindy Crawford and George Clooney.

This watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with a 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

Nothing screams 'classic watch' like a 1960s Omega and we love this 166.041 model.  It is a great fit for both men and women, and for first-time buyers or the seasoned collector. It possesses the famous omega 565 plunge change calendar as used in most seamasters and Constellation models. Not to be confused with some of the more entry level geneve models , this pretty thing is quite special.  That dial combined with that bracelet makes this quite a find.
