This Watch

We have here a stunning 1966 Tudor Prince Oyster model 7995 with a 34mm, stainless steel, screw-down, Oyster case produced by Rolex.  A lug to lug length of 40mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist, and while the watch is 34mm, it wears larger.  A signed screwed-down crown with the Rolex logo on the right side.  The slim, polished bezel holds a domed acrylic crystal, above one of the best condition original, Arabic dials we have seen in some time.  Applied raised numerals mark the hours.  Elegant tapered  sword hands are complemented by a stick sweeping seconds hand.  At 12 o’clock, we have the printed Tudor Rose with 'Tudor Oyster Prince' printed underneath.  At the 6 oclock position we have the famous smile faced Rotor Self-winding .Inside is the workhorse automatic Tudor / ETA2461 caliber with 25 jewels, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We've kept the watch on its rare, original Rolex / Tudor marked stainless steel, Oyster bracelet to keep it in the sporty category but it looks equally good on leather.

Extra Points 

Just after the Second World War, Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, knew that the time had come to expand and give the Tudor brand a true identity of its own.  He created the “Montres TUDOR S.A.” company on the 6th March 1946, specializing in models for men and women.  Rolex guaranteed the technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics, along with the distribution and after-sales service.

In 1947 Tudor introduced the Oyster, their first waterproof watch, building on the success of the Rolex Oyster of the same period.  In 1952, 26 Tudor Oyster Prince watches were included in the British scientific expedition to Greenland, organised by the Royal Navy and sponsored by The Queen.  This showed the world how robust Tudor Oyster watches were.
