This Watch

A really cracking 1960s Technos in that sweet-spot “mid size” case that wears properly as a unisex piece today. It has the sort of understated, high-quality styling that—at a glance—could easily be mistaken for something from Omega, Longines, Zenith or any of the bigger established houses of the era. The silver sunburst dial is beautifully clean with a crisp minute track, applied baton markers (with the darker inlaid accents at the quarters giving it a subtly more “designer” look), and hands with dark inlay/lume detail that add real depth without shouting.

The case is equally strong: a proper screwback stainless steel case, nicely made and reassuringly solid, with period-correct tool-watch wording to the back (antimagnetic / shock protected / waterproof / stainless steel / Swiss made). Inside sits a good grade Swiss manual-wind movement, the kind of dependable, serviceable calibre Technos built its name on.

Finished on a leather strap and fitted with the original Technos signed buckle—a lovely detail that you rarely get on these, and it really completes the watch.

Extra Points

Technos’ roots go back to 1900, when the Gunzinger family set up a watchmaking business in Welschenrohr, Switzerland; the Technos name itself was later established and the brand’s first watches are generally dated to 1924. From there it grew into a widely exported mid-century Swiss marque, building a strong following in overseas markets. Like many Swiss brands it was hit hard by the 1970s quartz crisis, and the company’s rights to the Technos trademark were ultimately sold to its long-time Japanese importer Heiwado in 1982; over time the brand’s centre of gravity shifted toward South America, with rights later transferring to Technos Relógios S.A. (Brazil), which has continued the name to the present day.

What We Think

This is exactly the sort of vintage watch we love recommending to people who want proper 1960s Swiss design and build, without paying “big-name” money. Technos were making seriously sturdy, well-finished watches with great proportions, and this one shows it—everything is tasteful, balanced, and quietly confident. If you want that classic mid-century look with a bit of “is it an Omega?” energy, this is a superb choice.
