We have here a very exciting Jumbo Omega 2580 with two tone dial! We love this dial variation with the painted Mirror Arabic numerals and mixture of gold, arrow markers. The gold Dauphine hour and minute hands sit in the center of the watch, with a large cross-hair type subsidiary seconds dial. For perfect symmetry, the dial is simply signed 'Omega' with the famous Omega logo at 12 o'clock. inner silvered section and outer champagne sector making it a visually stunning statement dial. In our opinion an older dial restoration and done well also showing some age and patina. Simple gilt hour and minute hands and omega signed crown.
The Large 38.5mm, stainless steel, clip back case is considered large (aka Jumbo) for this era of watch. When the 2505 (Same line) model was first introduced by Omega in 1946, the standard size for a watch was 33/34mm. It does wear large, but it is still a comfortable wear. This 1956 Version is double signed on the inner caseback - 2580-1 2505 , likely omega used the same case but with an updated ref for the catalogs. Short, thick and slightly curved lugs give the watch that 1950s feel and adds to the wearer's comfort. Inside is the mechanical, manual wind Omega caliber 266, which was based on Omega's famous 30T2 movement. The watch has been fully serviced by us and is running strongly. We've paired the watch on avery high quality brown leather strap but it looks great on anything.
Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space. It was only a few years before the Speedmaster became the official chronograph for the American space missions and was worn by Buzz Aldrin as well as the Apollo 13 crew. Omega are still involved with NASA and have been instrumental in creating vital pieces of equipment for space exploration. This watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with a 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

One of our favourite pieces! A larger, vintage, Omega is a rare find and we love the 38mm size. Perfect for some of the watch buyers slightly more interested by the size of more modern watches. The perfect watch for a vintage watch newbie or seasoned collector. Already own a 2505? Why not try to collect all of the different dial variations! An all original example and very individual.
