This Watch

The Rolex Gold Dress watch is one of those watches that never goes out of style and this particular version is no exception!  This watch comes fully serviced and perfect for a vintage watch lover who prefers watches with original patina and character and more compact in size. The fully original, champagne/eggshell dial has raised, All arabic numeral markers and a raised Rolex logo at the 12 o'clock position, along with elegant, sword-type hands. The dial is simply signed 'Rolex  and 'Precision,' ensuring that the elegance of this watch does all the talking.  Aged evenly over time and making the watch very individual.

The solid, 9ct gold 3 piece case is fully signed and complete with full  assay marks, It is polished while still retaining the edges and definition.  The case is enhanced by a polished bezel, drawing your eye to that gorgeous dial.  The case measures 30mm, and while this was a typical size for a gent's watch in this period, the modern man may find it a little on the small side, Perfect for a smaller wrist.  Inside is the mechanical manual wind Rolex caliber 700 or 10.5H, fully serviced by us and running excellently.  The watch is paired with simple Black 16mm strap but many options are available.
Extra Points

Hans Wilsdorf founded Rolex in 1905 at the age of 24, along with Alfred Davis in London. In 1919 they moved their operation to Geneva, Switzerland. This move was brought about by high wartime taxes on Gold and Silver in the UK after the Great war 1914-1918. They were now closer to their suppliers in Bienne. The Rolex Oyster case was released in 1926. Marketed as the world's first “waterproof” watch. The notches on the bezel and case back meant they could be screwed down to the middle case with a special tool invented and manufactured by Rolex to hermetically seal the case. In 1927 a young swimmer Miss Mercedes Gleitz swam the English channel wearing the “Oyster”. Later in 1933 the team of the first expedition to fly over Everest wore them. It was also famously worn by Sir Malcolm Campbell, “King Of Speed”, on the 4th September 1935. An advert of the time made a big splash with him saying “The Rolex watch is still keeping perfect time- I was wearing it yesterday when Bluebird exceeded 300 mph.” He broke the world land speed record 9 times between 1924 and 1936. 1931 saw the debut of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, their first self-winding watch that was also water-resistant and dustproof.

This watch has been fully serviced with our on-site workshop and comes with a 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

We love this watch and are proud to have such a stunning piece of design in stock, making it available for the next generations to come!  The years give each vintage watch character and individuality, and the watch develops differently depending on its environment and surroundings making almost every vintage watch unique.

This solid gold piece we class as a dress watch.  While this watch is slightly smaller at 30mm, it is the perfect size for a more petite frame, a lady or a young adult.  We've tried it on both men and women and neither gender wanted to take it off!  A must have for any collection and real vintage feel to a watch that looks its age  but has such a timeless elegance that makes it popular today.
