This Watch

We have here an incredibly exciting Omega from 1950.  The 2375 model is one of the first automatic Omega models and has a "bumper" automatic movement, where you can feel the rotor literally bump back and forth to wind the watch.  This particular bumper automatic movement has the Omega caliber 28.10RA (cal. 330), which has been fully serviced by us and is running strongly.  This exciting innovation sits inside the unpolished, 33mm, stainless steel case.  We've paired this watch on a vintage leather strap and, quite uncommon for a watch that is 70+ years old, this watch comes with its original, Omega buckle.

One of the best features of this watch, however, is the dial.  There is no question that this dial is original and we are in love with the way it has aged, creating a pancake-type effect.  This effect would have been caused by a combination of age, environment, climate, humidity, temperature and light - all of which react differently to the dial and cause this unique look, something that is very sought after by collectors.  And if, somehow, you needed another reason to fall head over heels for this watch, the lumed, Arabic numerals are also rare.  Along with the outer minute, railway-style tracking, lumed hands and subsidiary seconds dial, the watch has an almost military feel to it and we are obsessed.

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches.

What we think

The pictures do not do this dial justice!  This is definitely one to view in person as the light catches the dial and changes the colour and intensity of the pancake effect.  It's a really cool watch and I've spent quite a long time being mesmerised by the dial!  The perfect watch for both men and women, the first-time buyer and no collection is complete without a pancake dial!
