This Watch

We have here a stunning Omega Seamaster 165.020 from 1964 with an incredible linen / Hammered or fishscale  original dial!  The silvered original dial has a linen-effect texture with very little patina, chamfered, applied, singular baton markers and steel, sword hour and minute hands and a tapered central seconds hands.  At 12 o'clock, there is a double baton marker and the dial is signed 'Omega, Automatic' with the famous Omega logo.  At 6 o'clock, the dial is signed 'Seamaster Deville' There is a beautiful symmetry to this watch and it screams elegant, 1960s design.

The 34mm, round, stainless steel, monocoque/front-loading case makes for a very comfortable wear for both him and her and is complete with Omega's famous Seamaster hippocampus, first introduced in 1958.  Inside is the automatic Omega caliber 552, fully serviced by us and running strongly. The watch comes on a simple dblack lizard grain strap which has proved very popular in recent sales but it looks great on blue or brown too.

 Extra Points

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space.

The watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with our 12 months, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

About as good a vintage, pre owned Omega seamaster as you will find in some catalogs under the De Ville banner and can be switched from strap colour to strap colour at your leisure.  A rare dial variant which is impressive in different light. The dial really is in superfine condition and one of the best we have seen in some time. An important note to remember - The Digital camera lenses pick up on shades and colours which your eye is unable too, in person they always look even more impressive . Perfect for the vintage watch newbie or a great addition to a collection - if you're looking for an affordable, attractive and reliable vintage watch, you'd be pushed to find a better example!
