This Watch

We have here a 1965 Tudor Oysterdate with a stunning, original, silvered dial.  The dial has the date function at 3 o'clock, baton markers and alpha hour, minute and central seconds hands.  The smaller, Tudor rose logo is at 12 o'clock where the dial is signed, 'Tudor, Oysterdate' and 'Shock-Resisting' at 6.

The 34.5mm, stainless steel, Oyster case (produced by Rolex) has a polished bezel that draws the eye through the cyclops glass and to the dial.  A lug to lug length of 41mm and a thickness of 8.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist, and while the watch is 34mm, it wears larger.  A signed screwed-down crown with the Rolex logo on the right side.  On the reverse, a coin-edged screw-down case back.  Inside a manually-wound ETA 2403, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We've kept the watch on its original stainless steel, (Rolex) Oyster bracelet but it looks just as swish on leather too.

Extra Points

Just after the Second World War, Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, knew that the time had come to expand and give the Tudor brand a true identity of its own.  He created the “Montres TUDOR S.A.” company on the 6th March 1946, specializing in models for men and women.  Rolex guaranteed the technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics, along with the distribution and after-sales service.

In 1947 Tudor introduced the Oyster, their first waterproof watch, building on the success of the Rolex Oyster of the same period.  In 1952, 26 Tudor Oyster Prince watches were included in the British scientific expedition to Greenland, organised by the Royal Navy and sponsored by The Queen.  This showed the world how robust Tudor Oyster watches were.

This watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with a 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

We love a classic, timeless design so it is no wonder that we are big fans of this Tudor!  The perfect watch for him or her and in the sporty category.  Great for a vintage watch newbie and a must have in any collection!  As good as its Rolex counterpart and half the cost and can be switched from bracelet to strap at your leisure.
