This Watch

We are incredibly excited about this 1950s Tissot wristwatch.  The original gorgous dial alone is stunning and has ages to a perfect eggshell colour!  We love this patina along with the explorfer type Arabic numerals with bold spearhead mixed markers. Elegant, hour and minute hands sit at the centre with central seconds hand.  The dial is simply signed 'Tissot' in that cool itlic font  at 12 o'clock, giving this watch a beautiful symmetry to the watch.  There is definitely a military-style/Omega Suveran look to this watch, which only adds to the design of it.

The substantial 35mm, All steel, screw back case also has a military feel to it and top grade in quality. some expected all round patina for a watch more then made up for by the stunning dial and general character. 35mm pieces of this era and style are hard to find. Inside is the mechanical manual wind, Tissot in-house mechanical manual wind High grade caliber 27B - 21- 17 Jewels fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We've paired the watch on a simple tan brown leather strap, but it works well on anything.

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements. In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.

What we think

In our opinion, this Tissot is equal to what Omega were producing at the time in style and quality.  It is one not to be missed - the dial alone is exquisite - and it will look great in an established collection or a perfect piece for a first-time, vintage watch buyer! A fraction of the price of its omega cousin and as good in every way in our opinion
