This Watch

We are incredibly excited about this 1943 Tissot wristwatch.  The original, smokey patina dial alone is stunning! Original silvered dial with dramatic aged lacquer, now showing a rich honey-amber tropical patina with darker tobacco oxidation and wonderful untouched character. We love the painted All Arabic / lume marker numerals set inside a railway seconds outer tracking.  Elegant, paint filled hour and minute pencil hands sit at the centre and the simple subsidiary seconds dial sits at 6 o'clock with an ornate central seconds hand.  The dial is simply signed 'Tissot, Antimagnetique' at 12 o'clock, giving this watch a beautiful symmetry to the watch.  There is definitely a military-style/Omega Suveran look to this watch, which only adds to the 1940s design of it.

The 32mm, solid steel, unpolished sharp screw back case has the full Tissot works on the caseback. some expected marks and mild scratched to the case but totally expected on a WW2 piece and more then made up for by the stunning dial and general character.  Whilst this was a typical size for a gent's watch in this period, the modern man might find it a little on the small side ( But i dont ).  Inside is the mechanical manual wind, Tissot in-house mechanical manual wind caliber 27, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We've paired the watch on a brown 18mm suede strap with a vintage feel, but it works well on anything.

Extra Points

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements. In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.

The watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with our 12 months, non-waterproof service cover

What we think

In our opinion, this Tissot is equal to what Omega were producing at the time in style and quality.  It is one not to be missed - the dial alone is exquisite - and it will look great in an established collection or a perfect piece for a first-time, vintage watch buyer! could this piece have had some unlisted military use?
