This Watch

This highly collectable watch is the result of the only collaboration that ever took place between Vacheron and LeCoultre, despite the long history between the two companies.

The watch is triple signed; on the case it is signed by both companies with "Vacheron & Constantin LeCoultre Watches Inc.", the movement is signed "Le Coultre Co." and the dial, "LeCoultre."

The black, enamel dial is set with thirty seven genuine diamonds, all in white gold casings.  Thirty five of these diamonds are the hour markers and the other two diamonds form what is quite possibly the most interesting thing about this watch!

The minute hand, or diamond, sweeps around the dial as a conventional minute hand does, but the hour hand (diamond) is set on a separate inner dial, which rotates inside of the outer dial every twelve hours.  It is this diamond hour hand and inner dial that gives the illusion that the hand floats around the dial, without an obvious anchor point.

The mystery dial has remained such a captivating design that it was used by both Jaeger LeCoultre and Cartier, to name a few.

Extra Points

The fully hallmarked, 14ct solid white gold case with elegant lugs was originally manufactured for the American market over 60 years ago and is in very good condition.

The watch also has a high-quality K480/CW caliber, with 17 jewels and a Vacheron Constantin buckle.

This watch has been fully serviced by our on-site workshop and comes with our 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

There were several versions of the Vacheron-LeCoultre "Galaxy" that were produced, but we especially like the way black dial amplifies the sparkle of all thirty seven diamonds.  We can imagine Robert De Niro in Casino sporting such an attractive timepiece.
