This Watch

We have here a 1963 Tudor Prince Oysterdate model 7962 with a 34mm, stainless steel, screw-down, Oyster case produced by Rolex.  A lug to lug length of 40mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist, and while the watch is 34mm, it wears larger.  A signed screwed-down crown with the Rolex logo on the right side.  The slim, engine-turned bezel holds a cyclops crystal above a sunburst silver dial.  Applied dagger indexes mark the hours.  At 3 o’clock is the framed date window.  Elegant tapered hands are complemented by a stick sweeping seconds hand.  At 12 o’clock, we have the printed Tudor Rose with 'Tudor Prince Oysterdate' printed underneath.  Inside is the automatic ETA2484 caliber with 25 jewels, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We've kept the watch on its rare, original, riveted, sprung-loaded, stainless steel, Oyster bracelet to keep it in the sporty category but it looks equally good on leather.

Extra Points 

Just after the Second World War, Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, knew that the time had come to expand and give the Tudor brand a true identity of its own.  He created the “Montres TUDOR S.A.” company on the 6th March 1946, specializing in models for men and women.  Rolex guaranteed the technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics, along with the distribution and after-sales service.

In 1947 Tudor introduced the Oyster, their first waterproof watch, building on the success of the Rolex Oyster of the same period.  In 1952, 26 Tudor Oyster Prince watches were included in the British scientific expedition to Greenland, organised by the Royal Navy and sponsored by The Queen.  This showed the world how robust Tudor Oyster watches were.
