This Watch

We have here a stunning early Omega Seamaster deville 14770 from 1961 with an aged original rarer blue/green aqua colour satin dial!  The dial has an even patina which we feel has turned this tone over years. very elegant slim, slightly pointed applied, singular baton markers with , sword hour and minute hands and a tapered central seconds hands.  At 12 o'clock, there are double bold a baton markers at 6-9 & 12 as with most very early production seamasters in this range. The dial is signed 'Omega, Automatic' with the famous Omega logo.  At 6 o'clock, the dial is signed 'Seamaster De ville'  likely one of the first Deville marked seamasters .There is a beautiful symmetry to this watch and it screams elegant, 1960s design.

The 34mm, round, stainless steel, monocoque/front-loading case makes for a very comfortable wear for both him and her and is complete with Omega's famous Seamaster hippocampus, first introduced in 1958.  Inside is the automatic Omega caliber 560, fully serviced by us and running strongly. The watch is paired on a Genuine Crocodile high quality strap , but it looks great on black or brown too.

 Extra Points

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space.

The watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with our 12 months, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

About as good a vintage, pre owned Omega seamaster date as you will find in some catalogs under this model comes under the De Ville banner but this is an early version With the Rarer first production caliber 560 and can be switched from black strap to any 18mm colour you prefer at your leisure.  A classic model with Rare dial variant which is impressive in different light.  Perfect for the vintage watch newbie or a great addition to a collection - if you're looking for an affordable, attractive and reliable vintage watch, you'd be pushed to find a better example!  Character in bucket loads and an all original 1961 Birth-year piece
