Have a question?
This Watch
We have here a rare and unusual Tanis racing chronograph from the 1970s. The watch is in a new old stock condition/almost unused condition. We particularly love the unusual dial - it is in the shape of a steering wheel! The 30-minute recorder is at 3 o'clock, the calendar function sits at 6 o'clock and subsidiary seconds are at 9 o'clock. The watch also has the chronograph stop, start and flyback reset function. A directional Bakelite bezel is complete with the tachymeter scale.
The stainless steel case is immaculate. It is an oversized watch by vintage standards, measuring 40x42mm. The watch has its original Tanis-signed winding crown. Inside the case is the mechanical manual wind Valjoux caliber 7734. We've paired this watch on a racing strap to keep it in the sporty category but it looks great on plain leather too!

Extra Points
Not much is known of Tanis other than they were a Swiss brand based in Grenchen, about 25km from Bern. This particular watch was likely made as a promotional watch for a racing event, with around only 50 being produced. We certainly haven't seen many of them around!
This watch has been fully serviced by our on-site workshop and comes with our 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.
What we think
This watch is a rare find and one not to be missed! A high-quality, Swiss chronograph in immaculate condition - certainly the first one we've ever come across! From the shape of the case to the steering-wheel style dial, it is a must have for any racing car or F1 enthusiast!
