This Watch

WOW! We have here a stunning Tissot wristwatch from the early 1950s and unusually the first i have had the pleasure to handle in person.  I have always been a massive fan of the Omega version which seems to be the identical case but never had the opportunity to offer The Tissot watch co model, Loving every angle of this fantastically designed timepiece.  Even Down to the Tissot caliber 28.5-1 which is a joy to service.  The silvered dial is simple and minimalist, has perfect symetery and is 100% original. Has some age to it and old marks (Not a scratch at 12-1 o'clock not a hair)  - subsidiary seconds for that perfect symmetry and check out the font on Tissot Automatic. signed 'Tissot' with their vintage typeface before the  'T' logo was introduced and when Tissot watch co and Omega watch co worked together .A detailed and elegant dial with perfect symmetry - what more could you ask for in a watch

The substantial clip back , stylistic square case measures  32mm X 32mm not including the aer deco lugs so seems to wear bigger ( My wrist in the images around 7.5inches) Case has had a light polish but in very good order, fully signed as it should be.Inside is the automatic in-house Tissot auto bumper caliber 28.5-1, which you could easily mistake for the omega caliber 28.10! and as the two companies worked so closely together who is to say there was not a collaboration when producing these. Fully serviced by us and running strongly.  The watch come on a very cool later Tissot mesh bracelet which we feel completes the package but would also look good on a leather of your choice so you are not restricted.

Extra Points

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements. In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.

The watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with our 12 months, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

In our opinion, this Tissot is equal to what Omega was producing at the time in style and quality.  It is one not to be missed - the dial alone is exquisite - and it will look great in an established collection or a perfect piece for a first-time, vintage watch buyer who wants a slightly larger watch. We are only now finding out Tissot watch co made a re-addition of this watch in the mid 2000s calling it the Tissot chronometer square 1952. This watch is a limited number and hard to find now.  It would be great to put the two up against each other as a comparison and we are looking for one as we type.
