This Watch
We have here a stunning Omega Constellation that is 1960s/70s defined. We are in love with the Metallic sunburst Grey dial that seems to change tone in some lights. The incredible thing with this dial effect that makes us go weak at the knees! We'd gladly just gaze at this all day, but we have been blessed with also having the date function at 3 o'clock and sleek, Cats eye type markers and onyx/lume stick hour, minute and sweeping central hands. The dial is signed 'Constellation, Automatic' at 12 o'clock, with an applied Omega logo and 'Omega, Chronometer, Officially Certified' at 6.
The 35mm, stainless steel rectangular or Tv shape case is a comfortable wear. with hidden lugs that flow into the original brick type link bracelet and a pod like case construction its design is unapologetically 1970s with curved, seamless flanks Inside is the automatic Omega caliber 1012, with quick date change, fully serviced by us and running strongly. We've kept this watch on its original, integrated, flat-brick link bracelet to keep it in the sporty category. This watch can also be dressed down in plain leather. Extra Points
Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches. Omega made headlines in 1962 when Wally Schirra wore the Speedmaster as part of NASA's first crewed spaceflight programme, making the Speedmaster the first watch to enter space. It was only a few years before the Speedmaster became the official chronograph for the American space missions and was worn by Buzz Aldrin as well as the Apollo 13 crew. Omega are still involved with NASA and have been instrumental in creating vital pieces of equipment for space exploration.
This watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with a 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.
What we think
A quintessential vintage piece: the 1973 Omega Constellation 'Chronometer' (Ref. 168.0058). This watch is a stunner on the wrist, featuring a gorgeous, original Grey / silver dial with a mesmerizing "ghostly" appeal. Despite its 33mm measurement, it has incredible wrist presence. Inside, it’s powered by the robust automatic Omega Cal. 1012. It comes on its original Omega brick-link bracelet, a pairing I'm personally captivated by, but the 20mm lugs mean you have total freedom to customize the look. Don't miss out—I seriously considered adding this vintage treasure to my own collection!
