This Watch
Omega Seamaster Cosmic model 166.129, circa 1974. Stainless steel & gold case with unique 'Cosmic 2000' waterproof-designed case, where the outer bezel frame and movement are housed in inner sealed tub. The watch is in great condition with the engraved Seamaster logo on the back of the case. The talking point here is the amazing, original champayne dial Omega dial with some light ageing and the sharp satin burst case which is in great condition .The mineral crystal is in good order and the watch has the original signed Omega crown. The movement is an automatic calibre 1022, complete with hacking. The watch has the day and date functions, with day wheel with non English day wheel which is quite quirky. The watch is in excellent mechanical condition, and has been serviced and time tested by ourselves. Comes in a presentation box with our 12 months non water proof service cover.
During the late 1960s and 1970s, Omega produced a series of timepieces under the “Seamaster Cosmic” name, which sought to capitalise on Omega’s NASA/space travel heritage, and breathe new life into their Seamaster collection with casual and dress watches that embraced a more modern and futuristic design. Omega produced the Seamaster Cosmic in a number of different styles and configurations, including a dive watch with an integrated bracelet; however the general design language of the Cosmic revolves around cushion-shaped cases, and dials that either have “crosshair” markings or checkered minute tracks. Additionally, many Seamaster Cosmic watches used front-loading, single-piece cases, or a double case design with an integrated bracelet, like the Seamaster Cosmic 200 diver.
Extra Points
The watch on offer here represents one of the last of the GF models and features both the day and date complication at the 3 o’clock position on the dial. The beautiful satin champagne dial sets the stage for a really bold appearance which is fittingly finished with gilt baton indices and hands. The applied Omega logo adds an additional flair to the dial which has the wow effect for sure , which is in line with the age and reinforces the originality of this piece.
What we think
The 38-39mm stainless steel and gold case forms a great presence on ones wrist, which in part is due to the nicely rounded bezel, but also due to the generous size for a watch of this era, which in turn leaves a timeless and contemporary feel to the watch. Beating inside is the cal. 1022, with straight line lever escapement. A fantastic addition to anyone's collection.
If you're looking for an affordable, attractive and reliable vintage watch which stands up well to more modern sized watches , you'd be pushed to find a better example and a better complete packaged, which also holds its own with most Omega watches made today.
