This Watch

We have here a fantastic Omega Chronostop Genéve, Rare Drivers model 145.010, from 1967 in fantastic condition and on the original Mesh Bracelet.  The grey, sloped dial has thick, chrome, baton markers with lume pips and a lumed, triangle marker at 12 o'clock and a racing-style, outer-minute tracking.  This unusual model was designed to wear on the inside of the wrist as an easy read for driving.  The dial is signed 'Omega Chronostop' in white with the famous Omega logo in orange at 12 o'clock and 'Genéve' at 6.  White, lumed, index hour and minute hands provide a clear contrast but one of the things we love most about Chronostops is the striking, orange, chronostop seconds hand which really pops on this grey dial!

The 35mm, tonneau/barrel-shaped, stainless steel case is a comfortable wear for both him and her.  The chronostop pusher is located at 2 o'clock and the Omega-signed winding crown is at 4.  Inside is the mechanical manual wind caliber 865 , fully serviced by us and running strongly. The watch comes on its original and quite unique mesh steel omega patented bracelet - adjustable to all wrists and keeping it in the sporty category but it looks great on leather too.

Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland. Omega stepped onto an international stage in 1932 as the official timekeepers at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the first of over 20 Olympic Games. Omega were one of the 12 companies, now known as the Dirty Dozen, commissioned to produce watches for the British Military during the Second World War. One of Omega's most iconic watches, the Seamaster, was introduced in 1948 to celebrate their 100th anniversary. Over 70 years later, it is still one of Omega's best selling watches.

What we think

First introduced in 1967, we love Omega's Chronostop!  A design that is firmly in the sporty category, while being no nonsense.  The grey, sloped dial makes this watch extra special We've paired the watch on a grey, racing-style strap to match the dial and keep it in the sporty category but it looks great on leather too.  If you are looking for an affordable, attractive and reliable vintage watch, you'd be pushed to find a better example and it is a must-have in every collection. Apparently originally marketed as the poor man's Speedmaster but at a fraction of the price.
