This Watch

If there is one thing we love here at AWC, it's a 1970s watch that looks like a 1970s watch, and one of our favourite examples of this is the Omega Genève model 166.0164, complete with its unique hooded style lugs , large size and just look at that gloss green original dial and in unpolished original condition.

The futuristic style, brushed, Bold stainless steel, screw-back case has a sunburst effect to it, drawing your eye to the dial. A spaceage feel with no actual lugs for the strap, instead the strap is concealed behind a hooded shield. Inside this amazing case is the automatic Omega caliber 1012, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  Under the hooded lugs, we've paired the watch on a green croco grain leather strap with white stitch detail, but it looks great on everything.

The dial is another massive talking point! I'd describe the colour as a gloss deep forest green or dark emerald green . Like most 1970s coloured dials it seems to change colour and tone in different angles. I am tempted to say a 'Fume' effect from light to dark green Applied chrome baton markers and sword hour, minute and central seconds hands.  At 12 o'clock, the dial is signed 'Omega, Automatic' with the famous Omega logo. At 3 o'clock is the date window and at 6, the dial is signed 'Genève

Extra Points
Founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, Omega started out as La Generale Watch Co., an unassuming, but international business. It wasn't until 1885, when the company had been taken over by Louis' sons, that the first mass-produced caliber, the Labrador, was released. By 1903, the company had renamed itself Omega and only two years later were they the official timekeepers at many sporting events across Switzerland.

Fully serviced by us in our on-site workshop and comes with our 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

The 1970s may just be the greatest decade to ever happen (not least because that's when I was born).  Omega's designs were so fitting for this new, space-age feel and we absolutely adore how this watch embodies new technological innovations that were happening when it was produced.  A slightly larger watch at 38mm, but it is a comfortable wear for both men and women and a must-have in every collection! We feel the Geneve range was Omegas opportunity to experiment with design and colour. In our opinion The Geneve models are some of the most interesting and fantastically designed watches of the period - A real winner for us.
