This Watch

Here is a fantastic, all original IWC dress watch from 1968. The immaculate and fully original silver sunburst dial is the fist thing you notice , with a steel IWC block logo and the script logo underneath. It has faceted steel bar hour markers with pointed tips, double at 12 o’clock. The dauphine hands are in equally fantastic condition catching light in different positions .The hack stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to time-setting mode, to facilitate more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the date, which can be semi quick-set by first turning the hands through midnight so the date changes, then immediately turning the hands backwards to 23:45 and then forward through midnight again. Repeat as necessary.

The stainless steel watch bezel is in fine condition, with a few marks as expected on a vintagwepiece and 12 o’clock. The stainless steel case with the original fish crown and faceted heavy lugs is in very fine condition, with just a few marks at the lugs and the left case side. The stainless steel case back is in fine condition, with a radially brushed center and a polished rim showing some wear again all in keeping.

The watch comes on a High quality Hand made Horween Shell Cordovan 19mm tan strap which suits perfectly in our opinion.

Inside the watch, IWC’s superb C8541B movement with the Pellaton winding system beats strongly and accurately The watch was fully serviced in Recently via our onsite workshopand comes with our standard 12 month warranty

Extra Points

In 1867 Florentine applied for a European passport with the dream of creating watches using the American system of Watchmaking. This system was taken from the Federal Armories at Springfield and Harpers Ferry. Where armaments needed high precision interchangeable parts. This was perfect to use in watchmaking and Florentine was a pioneer in introducing it to the Swiss. In 1868 Florentine and Charles Kidder ended up in Schaffhausen Switzerland. Originally called the company F. A Jones & Co which was later changed to IWC International Watch Company. In 1876 Florentine returned to the USA where he retired and sadly passed away in 1916. The spirit which he spent a lifetime perfecting carries on today in the modern IWC watches.

This watch has been fully serviced in our on-site workshop and comes with our 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

This is an incredibly elegant dress watch that is a rare find!  We were very excited to add this to our collection!  It is a little larger than most watches from this period, measuring 36.5mm, but it still looks great on male and female wrists. A real tried and tested in house Iwc caliber and a dial to die for!
