This Watch

We have here an Ebel military watch from the 1940s.  Ebel was one of the 15 manufacturers that were tasked with producing watches for the British Army to a given specification.  ATP stands for Army Time Pieces and is found on wristwatches from 1935-1945.  The requirements of an ATP "specification" wristwatch were at 15-jewel, non-shock absorbing, 10 1/2 to 12 Ligne movement, a white or silver dial, minute tracking and luminous hands.

The watch have here has all the above features, and benefits from having been fully restored.  The black, painted, Arabic numerals sit inside the outer minute track.  At 12 o'clock, the dial is signed 'Ebel' with their famous logo.  At 6 o'clock is the Arabic subsidiary seconds dial, with lumed cathedral hands just above at the centre pinion.

The 32mm, stainless steel case has lug to lug length of 41mm and a thickness of 10mm, making for a comfortable wear for both him and her.  The case is an unusual all fitted into a pod-type back, patented case where the movement fits into the case via the bezel.  Inside is the mechanical manual wind Ebel caliber 99 with 15 jewels, fully serviced by us and running strongly.  We've fitted the watch on a bund strap to keep it in the military style, but it looks great on anything.

Extra Points

Eugene Blum and Alice Levy, husband and wife, joined their initials together (Eugène Blum Et Lévy) to form the brand name Ebel in 1911.  Based in La Chaux de Fonds the company was taken over by their son, Charles in 1932, where he began to concentrate the business branching out overseas before Blum’s grandson Pierre Alain took over.  It was at this point, in 1932 that Ebel began creating wristwatches for Cartier.  Later Ebel became part of the LVMH Group and then Movado Group by the end of 2003.

This watch comes fully serviced by our on-site workshop and with a 12 month, non-waterproof service cover.

What we think

Such a fantastic example and I see these ATP's only increasing in popularity as the military watch genre continues to grow.  Keeping in mind the WWW pieces start from £2000 this watch is a great entrance into the watch militaria world!

We love this watch and are proud to have revived such a stunning piece of design, making it available for the next generation. We like to be as transparent as possible with what our watches have gone through, and we are happy to present quality craftsmanship that means these timepieces get many more years of use!
